Sunrise Hike from Hostel Brikette (Positano)
A short pre-dawn hike from Hostel Brikette to a quiet viewpoint above Positano, with navigation photos in the correct order.
What is the Sunrise Hike?
This is a short, pre‑dawn out‑and‑back walk from Hostel Brikette to a small viewpoint above Positano.
If you want a longer mountain option, Santa Maria del Castello is a great alternative, but the route below is the quickest way to get a dramatic sunrise view without committing to a full-day hike.
Before you go (it will be dark)
Bring a phone light or headlamp, and keep your hands free (especially on the stairs).
Wear shoes with grip — the first part is paved, but the woodland trail can be loose or damp.
Start early enough that you arrive 10–15 minutes before sunrise so you can settle in, find your spot, and enjoy the first light.
Step 1: Walk from the hostel to the staircase (≈350 m)
Exit the hostel through the main door and walk down to the road.
Turn toward Sorrento and walk about 350 metres along the main road until you reach a staircase climbing up from the road.
Step 2: Climb to the house, then turn left
Take the staircase all the way up until you reach the old white house pictured below.
At the house, turn left to join the woodland trail.

Step 3: Follow the woodland trail to the viewpoint
Follow the woodland trail as it climbs gently away from the house.
When the trail branches, take the right branch.
You’ll eventually reach a point where the trees open and you can see the sea straight ahead. From there, head around to your left.
That leftward path brings you to the viewpoint. You can scramble carefully up the rocks for a higher perch, or stay at the main spot for a stable view.

Essentials
- Headlamp or phone light (plus a charged battery).
- Shoes with grip and a light layer — it can feel cool and breezy before dawn.
- Water and a small snack if you plan to sit and watch the sunrise.
Smart timing
- Do a quick forecast check: wind and low cloud can hide the sunrise even on otherwise clear days.
- If you’re unsure about a junction in the dark, pause and confirm your bearings rather than guessing.
Safety notes
- Go slowly on the stairs and keep your hands free — it’s easy to misstep in low light.
- If the trail feels slippery after rain, consider watching from the hostel terrace instead.
FAQs
Can I just watch sunrise from the hostel?
Yes — the hostel terrace is the simplest option and the sun rises to the left of the building when you’re facing the sea.
How long does the hike take?
It’s a short route, but timing depends on your pace and how long you spend at the viewpoint. Leave enough time to arrive 10–15 minutes before sunrise.
